Treasures Beyond
There was a king in a faraway land
Who set out on a courageous endeavor.
He didn’t want land or jewels or gold
Or even the rarest of treasures.
He didn’t want money or a new white horse,
He didn’t want things that shined,
And he didn’t want friends or laughs or poems
(Even ones that cleverly rhymed).
He had his eyes on his prize,
And oh, to what lengths he would go,
Painting the clouds all over the sky,
Praying that someone would know,
Sending armies of men through rain and shine,
When it finally came to an end,
“He was at the neighbor’s house, sir,”
And he never lost his dog again.
